Windscreen Anti-Fog by Rain-x
RainX Anti-fog is designed to eliminate interior condensation caused by wet weather, high humidity levels or temperature changes. Rain-x Anti-fog is for in atomotive glass interiors and mirrors. Do not use on plastics, painted treated or coated sufaces. Classic & Sportscar give RainX 10/10 and a best product rating and say, 'Without doubt the best product on test. It's not the best value, yet we struggled to make the 'screen fog up with this solution. When it finally did, it cleared quickly and left little moisture on the glass. The clear liquid is easy to apply and it suggests reapplication for best results, one one pass was enough to impress us' Classic & Sportscar, Jan 2008.

The Rain-X Product

You can now apply Rain-X windshield treatment using a stick.
Rain-X has been the go-to product for improved windshield vision for decades. It's been tested and it works. In fact, many racers I know remove their wipers altogether and rely on Rain-X to keep their windshields clean throughout a long race. Rain-X has a new way to apply the windshield treatment. It's a stick that looks a lot like deodorant. And we found out it's really easy to put on the windshield!

Review: Rain-X Will Save Your Life
Filed under: Cars & Transportation — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am
We were driving home to Salt Lake City, Utah from Mount Hood, Oregon. Somewhere in Idaho, the rain hit us hard. The wind was blowing and the windshield wipers couldn’t keep up with the rain. Then it got even worse. The wind started blowing our wipers OFF the windshield. For at least ten seconds, the wipers weren’t touching the glass, yet we could still see. The Rain-X that I had put into the windshield wiper fluid had made the glass water repellent. I truly believe that in those ten seconds when the wipers were blown off the windshield, Rain-X saved our lives.

After the rain slowed down and we regain our wits about ourselves (stopped screaming like lunatics), we realized that we should have taken a video of how well the Rain-X was working for the Gadgets Page. We found a nearly empty portion of the freeway. I filmed while Mike drove. He turned off the windshield wipers so you can see how much the Rain-X was actually doing. The rain had actually calmed down a bit by the time we remembered to video this, but I think it shows how well Rain-X works.

The funny thing is that I didn’t buy Rain-X because of its wonderful water repellent properties. I had been out of windshield wiper fluid. The store where I bought some was out of the inexpensive blue stuff, so I mindlessly sprung for the more expensive brand without even looking at it. Worth every penny!

Seriously, right now. Go out and get Rain-X for your car. I can’t stress how well it works. Not even this video shows how great it is. It could actually save your life.

2011 Tornado Reports and Fatalities Trending Way Above Average in U.S.

2011 Tornado Reports and Fatalities Trending Way Above Average in U.S.

2011 Tornado Report

The number of tornadoes in the U.S. in 2011 is running way above normal thanks to a very large number of tornadoes in April. On April 27, there were over 278 tornado reports in a single day. The second chart shows that 2008 may end up being an analog year for 2011 if May spawns another big tornado outbreak. You can see larger versions of these graphs here.

2011 Tornado Report Compared to Recent Years

The death toll from tornadoes in 2011 is also way above average. New Scientist has some informative charts here that show 348 deaths from tornadoes through April in 2011. This is already much higher than any year in the past 30 years. In 1975 there were 353 people killed by tornadoes. The next highest fatality figure earlier than that is 1953 when 487 people were killed by tornadoes in the U.S.

United States 2010 tornado death toll stands at 23; surpasses 2009 but remains below the average

  • June 8th, 2010 2:39 pm CT

2010 United States Tornado Fatalities by state (Jackson Weather Examiner)

The United States death toll from tornadoes now stands at 23 after a powerful EF-4 tornado impacted Wood County, Ohio Saturday night.
Tornado deaths have now been recorded in 5 states with more than half of those deaths in Mississippi (13), as a result of 3 killer tornadoes including the widest and one of the longest tracked tornadoes in Mississippi weather history!
Tornado deaths have also been recorded in Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Ohio.
The 23 tornado deaths are the highest from tornadoes in over a year and or since 2008.  In 2009, 21 deaths from tornadoes were recorded during the year in 8 states.
If there is any goods news, the United States remains below the overall average of 76 tornado deaths over the  last 3 years, which takes into account the extremely active tornado year of 2008, in which 126 people were killed by tornadoes in 16 states.
TORNADO FATALITIES SINCE 2005
Looking back over the past decade and the top 5 deadliest states, EF-3 or higher intensity tornadoes were found to be the most common among tornado related deaths with Tennessee leading the nation in tornado related fatalities with 1 death from a tornado already this year.
Only 2 out of 9  killer tornadoes this year were rated below EF-3 intensity.
